Diamond Hands Watch Collectors Club was a startup merging luxury watches with NFTs. It created digital assets connected to the ETH-blockchain, offering exclusive ownership experiences that blended traditional watch collecting with modern digital trends.
Overview
Led the design process, creating over 850 hand-drawn 2.5D watch parts using Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer. From 1 million possible combinations, traits were filtered to 150k, with the top 10k hand-selected for quality. Managed workflow via Notion to streamline tasks and feedback. We built a Discord community of 2,500 users within 4 weeks, fostering engagement and feedback to ensure the project met high standards for luxury digital NFTs.
Goals
User Engagement: Create a highly engaging user experience with clean, intuitive interfaces
Cross-Platform Accessibility: Ensure compatibility across devices and platforms
Scalability: Build the platform with scalability in mind
Security and Trust: Implement secure processes to ensure user data protection
Fast Time-to-Market: Prioritize speed in development and deployment to meet market demands efficiently
Responsive Support: Provide mechanisms for rapid troubleshooting and user feedback
Challenges
Smart Contract Interactions: Two smart contracts needed to interact seamlessly, increasing complexity; > 1 Mio possible combinations
Massive Website Generation: An algorithm generated 10,000 low-code REACT websites, designed to function for decades
Layer Complexity: Watches had up to 16 staked layers, complicating the 2.5D realistic design, especially with shadow effects inside of the watch corpus and the hands
Design Selection: Over 1 million possible designs had to be reduced manually after cutting down to 150k parts
Results
Project Diamond Hands combined traditional watch design with NFT technology, featuring 850 hand-illustrated parts. Despite not launching due to high costs, it gained over 2,500 followers within a couple of weeks and fostered an active community across different time zones. The project provided valuable insights, with one team member advancing to a leadership role in the Web 3.0 agency Alfred/NerdJvM.
Created unique, interactive NFTs showing UTC time, outstanding for their quality and performance
Achieved interoperability across several platforms, enhancing user engagement
Reduced parts to 150k through clever trait management and manually selected the best using a custom-written tool
Uniform Base Design: Standardized watch base to ensure component compatibility over six different watch types
850 Detailed Hand Illustrations: Enhanced visual appeal with detailed, hand-drawn illustrations.
Community Feedback Integration: Used Discord to validate designs continuously, even some Bored Apes holder got interested into the project
Although the launch was halted due to high infrastructure costs and market downturns, the team gained significant knowledge and expertise. One team member even advanced to become CEO of Alfr3d, a subdivision of Nerd/Jung von Matt, showcasing career growth and the project's impact
